Major HRSG Penetration Seal Replacement Project –
885 MW Natural Gas-Fired Combined Cycle Power Generation Plant
HRSG penetration pipes are subject to high temperatures and large movements, requiring a tight seal at the shell casing. Penetration seals accommodate the stresses imposed on the piping and maximize the life of the unit.
(44) new fabric penetration seals were custom designed to the temperature and movement requirements at each specific location.
- High-temperature composite fabric expansion joint belt
- New “Clamp” design pipe flange and casing flange assemblies
- Stainless steel clamping band assemblies
The installation of the HRSG fabric penetration seal assemblies included the removal of existing OEM “Packing” seals, installation of upper and lower flange assemblies, installation of cavity insulation, outer fabric penetration seal layers, vulcanization of PTFE outer layers, compression of seal overlength, and installation of clamping bands.
Project completed within twelve (12) consecutive 12-hour shifts during the fall scheduled outage.
